Chamber of Commerce weather? More like U.S. Senate weather in St. Cloud Wednesday

Florida Sen. Rick Scott made a brief visit to St. Cloud Police, downtown district

Wednesday seemed like a great day to stroll a few blocks of downtown St. Cloud.

Especially if you were coming from chilly, wintery Washington, D.C.

Former Florida governor and current U.S. Senator Rick Scott dropped in for about an hour Wednesday. According to his staff, Scott is taking the opportunity to visit Florida communities, and get the concerns of local leaders and businesspeople.

But why St. Cloud, on Wednesday?

"Mayor (Nathan) Blackwell told me it was the best city in the state, so I had to check it out!" the Senator said. "We have some new (City) Council members here who I wanted to meet."

He heard about the concerns of ongoing street construction on downtown streets.

"If these were federal roads, I'd be sure to help," Scott said.

He started his visit stopping in at the St. Cloud Police Department to see the operations there. From there he toured a few blocks of New York Avenue, stopping in a couple shops and buying some home-grown honey — he paid full price while dispensing some small business advice, before heading off to his next community stop.
