New year’s resolutions are perhaps the best way to step into the new year with a desire to change. While more common resolutions include working out or eating healthier, Celebration High School’s Key Club takes a different approach: a desire for service.
At Celebration High, the Key Club is working to improve the community through dedicated service. It is a student-led organization that encourages students to cooperate as serviceable and inclusive citizens. Key Club engages in many service projects such as beach cleanups, clothing drives, and other volunteer projects that help better different areas of the community. Just prior to the New Year, Key Club partnered with VolunteerOrlando to host a cleanup at Lake Ivanhoe, where trash was collected by members in kayaks around the lake. These volunteers were able to end the year on a high note, and are looking to start the new year in the same way.
To start off the New Year, the Key Club will conduct a campus cleanup around CHS to make sure students can return back to school with a clean learning environment. Key Club also hopes to host a clothing drive, and will be collecting donations around the school campus. The annual club elections will also be taking place to select the new board to lead the club for the next academic year. Current and future board members will be traveling to attend the annual district conference, where workshops are held to prepare Key Clubs across Florida for receiving members and conducting service projects in the coming school year. No matter the activity, Key Club hopes to keep its members active at the return of the school year, to set the standard for the rest of the semester. When it comes to the community, Key Club won’t stop working to serve others with a spirit of compassion and dedication. This January, the club will keep the same resolution in mind: There’s no better way to start the year than with service!
