Be mindful and careful driving some Kissimmee streets, as the city announced an extensive list of streets and roads that will be milled and resurfaced beginning Sunday.
It's part of the nearly $5 million Citywide Pavement Management Milling and Resurfacing Project, designed to extend the lifespan of city streets and enhance safety and driving conditions for all who use those roads.
In the short term, work begins on North Dyer Boulevard, North Thacker Avenue, and West Carroll Street this week, then will move on to Smith Street and Brack Street.
A full map of the streets to be worked on can be found here. Roads like John Young Parkway and Vine Street are managed by the State of Florida and are not under the jurisdiction of the city.
Asphalt will be replaced, lane striping and other pavement markings like crosswalks will be upgraded for better visibility, and some traffic sensors will be replace to enhance traffic signal efficiency (a.k.a., no more waiting at a red light at an empty intersection).
The city said the work should occur between 7 a.m. and 4 or 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some night work will be required to limit negative impacts on traffic patterns. Some temporary lane closures and driveway access restrictions may be needed but crews will work to minimize disruption, officials say.
