He is the 3rd SCPD member to complete rigorous FBI training program
A St. Cloud Police Department captain has now achieved an honor only two other members of its force -- the SCPD Chief and a fellow Captain -- can match.
Capt. Curtis Wesler has graduated from the FBI’s 292nd session of the National Academy, a 10-week program that provides training to law enforcement leaders from around the world.
The FBI National Academy is a highly competitive, executive-level program that is only open to law enforcement officers who have been nominated by their respective agencies. The program covers a wide range of topics, including leadership, ethics, and investigative techniques. It provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science. It also serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide.
Fewer than 1% of law enforcement officers nationwide have completed the FBI National Academy course.
St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke graduated from the Academy in 2019 prior to joining SCPD.
“I am proud of Captain Wesler for this incredible achievement. He is a dedicated and hard-working officer who constantly displays his commitment to serving the community.” Goerke said. “His graduation from the FBI National Academy is a testament to his dedication and commitment to excellence.”
Captain Wesler’s SCPD career has spanned more than 20 years. He has worked in roles as patrol officer, training unit, street crimes and SWAT Commander. He is currently the department’s Patrol Operations Division Commander. He was promoted to Captain in 2022.
Wesler is the second to complete the Academy while with SCPD, following Captain Denise Roberts in 2023.
