A few raindrops and some traffic couldn’t deter our area’s law enforcement from participating in the annual Special Olympics Torch Run Friday.
The Flame of Hope made its way from near Osceola Heritage Park down U.S. Highway 192 into downtown Kissimmee and down Main Street to the Kissimmee Lakefront at Ruby Plaza, roughly 3.5 miles or a 5K run.
Members of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office – such as current and former sheriffs Bob Hansell and Marcos Lopez – the St. Cloud Police Department and Chief Doug Goerke, the Kissimmee Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol all participated in a tradition – along with a certain reporter who was imbedded within the run.
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. It annually raises millions of dollars for the Special Olympics, which held its 2022 USA Games at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports, with the equestrian events at the Silver Spurs Arena.
