Last weekend, Osceola County was the center of the Republican Party universe, as the The 2023 Florida Freedom Summit took place at the Gaylord Palms Resort.
The event featured appearances and speeches by the party's leaders, and those seeking the presidential nomination for the 2024 Election. They included President Donald Trump, Governor Ron DeSantis, former Governor Nikki Haley (appeared via video as she was tending to family), former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Senator Tim Scott, Vivek Ramaswamy, and current and past state leaders Wilton Simpson, Jimmy Patronis, Ashley Moody and Pam Bondi.
While speakers alternated praising and criticizing the former President, Trump was the day's final speaker. Over the course of an hour or so, he touted his term as president and accomplishments working with world leaders. He said the current Joe Biden administration has been "a disaster," but said another four years of his policy-making would, "Make American great again."
Aside from Trump, DeSantis did have a share of support of attendees. He touted his policies during the pandemic that kept the state "open for business" and, in turn, made it "the free-est state in America."
