It was a good week, if you bought gas once (or twice), but will the good times last through Labor Day?
AAA The Auto Group reports Florida gas prices have declined 20 cents in the past 10 days, and declined all through last week, unlike other recent weeks which featured at least one price spike. On Sunday, the state average was $2.93 per gallon, a drop of 15 cents for the week.
Locally, prices in Osceola County ended the week at $2.946. That's off by 15 cents in the last week, and 17 cents in the last month. A year ago the local average price at the pump was $3.28.
"Gas prices are moving lower as the unofficial end of the summer travel season approaches," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group. “However, there's no guarantee this downward trend continues into the extended weekend. For almost a year now, Florida gas prices have followed a pattern of declining for about 10 days, then rebounding 10-20 cents. While that's certainly possible, whatever drivers pay at the pump should remain less than what they paid during last year's holiday weekend.”
On Labor Day 2024, Florida gas prices averaged $3.30 per gallon. The state average hasn't returned to that height ever since.
During that time, oil prices were trading at around $70 per barrel. On Friday, the U.S. price for oil closed at $63.66/b.
