The Florida Highway Patrol is asking the public for information into a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred around midnight Saturday night into Sunday morning near the entrance to Cypress Cove along Pleasant Hill Road.
FHP said it may be looking for a newer-model black Honda Accord, as reported by witnesses.
Troopers say an unknown vehicle was traveling northbound on Pleasant Hill approaching Sun Cove Drive in the left lane, where a bicyclist was crossing the roadway. An unknown vehicle and a Volkswagon Jetta both had a green light. The victim, only identified as a male by FHP, entered the path of the first vehicle, which struck him. The impact caused the bicyclist to be thrown into the right lane, into the path of the Jetta, whose driver attempted to swerve to avoid the man but still struck him as he laid in the roadway.
After the collision, the first vehicle fled northbound on Pleasant Hill. The Jetta driver and his passenger were not hurt and remained on-scene. The victim was pronounced dead on scene.
Anyone with information into the crash, which remains under investigation, is asked to contact FHP at #347 for CrimeLine at 1-900-423-TIPS.
