Not all the July 4 fireworks were in the sky Friday night, as a man arrested for burglary was first shot by a family member of the home's resident.
Mitchell Platt, 37, was arrested after allegedly breaking into the Deer Run Road home and charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says that around 8:30 p.m. Friday, deputies were dispatched to the home in reference to a residential burglary. A man there told deputies that when he arrived at his mother’s house and noticed a rear door was open. He entered the home and said he heard strange noises coming from the back bedroom, and so he armed himself with a revolver and called out to see who was in the home. An intruder, later identified as Platt, emerged from a hallway and charged towards the man, who fired a shot a single shot from the revolver according to the Sheriff's report, striking the intruder in the leg. He then held the intruder at gun point until deputies arrived at the scene. Deputies said burglary tools were found inside the residence near the area where the suspect was located.
