Summer means heading to Poinciana’s pools

It’s time to make a splash.  The new summer pool hours are here. 

The Mary Jane Arrington Aquatic Center (625 Country Club Dr.) and the Victory Pool (445 Marigold Ave.) are open Wednesday thru Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, call 863-427-9000 ext. 701.

 

Are you ready for a good laugh?  The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) presents Altagracia Esta De Madre 2, a comedy show en Espanol that takes place Saturday, May 23 at 8 p.m. at the Poinciana Community Center (445 Marigold Ave.). There is always something going on at the Poinciana Library.

Sensory Playdate on Thursday, May 4 from 2-3 p.m. is one such program.  Explore the five senses with sensory activities that benefit all children but are of particular help to those on the autism spectrum or those with sensory integration challenges. 

Go Ani-MAY on Friday, May 5 from 3-5 p.m.  Unwrap a new manga favorite or swap for more interesting titles in a white elephant book exchange.  The books will be provided.  After the swap there will be a showing of the Anime Classic film, Tokyo Godfathers.

The School District of Osceola County’s Read Bus will be onsite at the Library on Monday, May 8 from 9:15 a.m. to noon. The District’s Special Program Department brings this renovated yellow school bus with an interior that resembles a mini pre-K classroom to the Library.  The bus is equipped with resources to engage parents and families of pre-school age children and toddlers in activities to develop early literacy skills under the guidance of trained parent liaisons. 

There are 2 sessions available – 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Registration is encouraged.  To register, call 407-870-4934.

Learn 2 Read for children ages from birth to 2 years-old will also be on May 8 from 10-10:30 a.m.  Help your child develop an early love for reading with this interactive experience that also provides how to techniques for parents.  This activity is presented by the parent Involvement Team of the Osceola County School District.

That afternoon, Home School Book Worms also meet at the Library from 2-3 p.m.  Home schoolers can meet new friends while embarking on adventures through a different book each month.

Namaste!  StorYoga takes place at the Library on Tuesday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m. This program is in celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month.  Children of all ages can benefit from a little stretching, breathing and movement.  If you have a body and can move some parts of it, you can do yoga!  Participants should wear comfy stretchy clothes and bring your own may or towel. 

Poinciana Library is located at 101 Doverplum Ave. All Library events are free and open to the public.

 

On Apr. 20, the Poinciana Council held their annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon at Poinciana High School.  Four graduating High School seniors who reside in the Poinciana area each received a$1,000 scholarship.  Congratulations to Liberty High School’s Tianna Daley and Gian Molina-Torres, Poinciana High’s Amina Ahmend and PATHS’ Esther Hillaine.

The luncheon was prepared by the culinary students under the direction of Chef Juan Alamo and was sponsored by Osceola County Health Services, Valencia College-Poinciana Campus and MIDFLORIDA Credit Union.
