St. Cloud News -- Rodeo parade kicks off 80th anniversary celebration

Be a part of Osceola County’s history! Come out to the Silver Spurs Rodeo Parade in downtown St. Cloud on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m.  The Silver Spurs Rodeo Parade has a rich history, and it’s celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.  Founded by the Silver Spurs Riding Club, the parade began on a small scale to promote the Silver Spurs Rodeo, and this year’s event will capture the past history and tradition of the rodeo..   Featuring a colorful procession of equestrian groups, marching bands, vintage cars and local organizations.  This parade is a vibrant celebration of Osceola County’s heritage and community spirit. 

Also on Saturday, Sami’s Park Pop-Up, presented by AdventHealth and the City of St. Cloud, will be on from 10 a.m. to noon at Water Tower Park, (3600 Pine Tree Drive).  Kids will get to meet Sami the Sandhill Crane and enjoy a bounce house.  There will be surprise activities and giveaways. 

That evening, the City of St. Cloud presents Teen Movie Night from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Peghorn Nature Park.  The movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home” will be shown. Admission is $10 per person and includes pizza, popcorn and drinks.  This event is for teenagers 13-16 years of age – bring current student or valid Florida ID. St. Cloud Main Street’s next Breakfast with the Pros will be on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 8 a.m. at the VFW Hall, 915 New York Ave.  The topic will be Podcasts and Marketing with guest speaker Jay Bemiller, who will explain how he utilized podcasts to help small businesses. This event is free and open to the public.  Breakfast will be provided.

 

The 2nd annual Designer Bag Bingo, sponsored by the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy, takes place on Sunday, Feb. 14 at the St. Cloud Community Center.  Doors open at 12:15 p.m. and Bingo starts at 1 p.m. The $50 fee for each admission ticket includes 24 games of Bingo and chances to win.  The grand prize is a Kate Spade Weekend Travel Bag with toiletries bag.  BYO soft drinks and snacks. For more information, contact Ellen Lynch at 321-443-6494 or Bob Cardaci at 774-406-7037.

For more Bingo fun, Valentine’s Day Bingo, presented by the City of St. Cloud, takes place on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.  This family friendly event will be held at Hopkins Park (620 E. 17th St. ). Come for the Bingo, stay for the food, music, prizes and fun.  This event is free.

 

The Women’s Club of St. Cloud presents Curiosities & Oddities Show on Saturday, Feb. 17.  Take a peek at some rare collections – some odd and some simply fun.  This event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Women’s Club of St. Cloud (1014 Massachusetts Ave.)

 

The Black History Festival in downtown St. Cloud, 818 Pennsylvania Ave., presented by Granny’s Southern Smokehouse, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  There will be a variety of vendors that highlight the Black voices and community within St. Cloud and surrounding areas. 

This is their first Black History Festival, and is a family friendly event.  There will be live entertainment, food trucks, car show in addition to the vendors.  There will also be a kid’s zone. 

 

The City of St. Cloud will hold a public workshop on Monday, Feb. 19 at 5 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Public input is needed on the 5th St. Corridor Study.  The Public works Department recently completed a study on 5th St. between Brown Chapel Road and Mississippi Avenue to explore making it an uninterrupted east/west corridor with no stop signs.  At this workshop, staff will discuss the findings and gather comments from the public, so let your comments be heard.

 

Senior Smiles Osceola is rolling into town!  Seniors in Osceola County have a new program in collaboration with Osceola Health Services to provide quality partial or full denture for seniors 55 and over (participants can be insured or uninsured).  This state-of-the- art bus will be at St. Cloud Veterans Memorial Library (810 13th St.) on Tuesday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 407-943-8600 and select option 2 to book an appointment.
