The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) presents its 30th Annual 2023 Christmas Parade and Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. Featuring dozens of floats, marching bands, schools, community organizations and other participants. The parade will make its way down Cypress Parkway to Vance Harmon Park with the holiday celebration at the amphitheater at the Vance Harmon Complex.

This celebration boasts outdoor entertainment, stilt walkers, clowns, food trucks, vendors, a kid zone and visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Live onstage performances feature recording artist Michael Evans and his orchestra. There will also be the traditional Battle of the Bands.

The following streets will close at 10:30 a.m.: Country Club Court, Chip Court, Trophy Lane, South Flag Drive, South Flag Court, Country Club Road between Doverplum and Caddy Lane and Doverplum between Cypress Pkwy. and Country Club Drive.

Laurel Elementary School will hold its inaugural Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They are currently looking for vendors. Reserve your spot to sell crafts, gifts and other items. The cost is $20 per spot, 2 spots for $35. Food trucks can reserve a spot for $35. For more information, call 863-427-1375.

 

The Southport Holiday Marketplace takes place on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2001 E. Southport Road Shop holiday gifts, local crafts, baked goods, jams and jellies, candles and soaps, plants and more. The Clauses will be making a visit to add to their lists (Naughty or nice?), come take a photo with family or pets from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Then, later that day come party with Santa from 3-5 p.m. at Valencia College’ Poinciana Campus. Join Osceola County District 3 Commissioner Brandon Arrington and take a photo with Santa. Dance to seasonal tunes, indulge in sweet treats and enjoy pony rides. There will also be plenty of giveaways.

 

Jam Session Sports Athletics presents the JSSA Winter Basketball Clinic for boys and girls ages 5 to 13. Sessions are Dec. 21-23 and Dec. 28-30, from 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Poinciana Community Park (5109 Allegheny Road).

The cost is $20 per child per day, with a $5 discount for signups before Dec. 21. All players must sign a waiver prior to participating. For more information, call 321-835-0200 or email jssabasketball8@gmail.com.

Speaking of basketball, online registration is now open for the Poinciana Hoops league. Now in its 18th season, this league is for boys and girls ages 5-17. The $150 fee ($175 after Dec. 31) includes a jersey. Draft day is Saturday, Jan. 13, with the first game on Saturday, Feb. 3. To register, go to www.pysafl.com.
