POINCIANA COLUMN: Give a gift — donate blood Thursday

Roll up your sleeve!  A Community Blood Drive takes place at the Poinciana Library on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 1-6 p.m.  OneBlood’s Big Red Bus will be onsite to receive your lifesaving donation. Temperatures will be taken upon arrival and face coverings must be worn. For more information, go to www.OneBlood.org.

Also at the Library, explore the five senses with Sensory Activities to benefit all children, but are of particular help to those on the autism spectrum or those with sensory integration challenges on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.  Future sensory playdates will be Jan. 2 and 16.

Learn how to protect your health and wealth by attending Retirement 101 on Friday, Dec. 20 from 10-11 a.m.  Presented by AmeriLife and learn ow to prepare for your future and how the decisions you make today may impact your retirement plans.

Then at 1 p.m., Paint the Town takes place, presented by local artist Dominique Jarrett.  Learn how to unlock your creativity.  Supplies provided and registration is required, call 407-742-8888.

The Polar Express Party for children ages 6-11 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Celebrate winter time with this seasonal STEAM activities, then curl up with a blanket and pillow you brought from home and watch the movie The Polar Express. 

Later, adults can roll up some fun with Dungeons & Dragons gaming on Dec. 21 from 2-4 p.m.  Use your imagination and problem-solving skills while meeting with others who enjoy role playing games.  Dice are not provided, registration is required.

All Library programs are free and open to the public. Poinciana Library is located at 101 N. Doverplum Ave.

 

Come join the party!  Join Commissioner Brandon Arrington’s Party with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 1-3 p.m. at Valencia College Poinciana Campus.  Enjoy treats, face painting, balloon art, student raffle giveaways, adult raffle giveaways and a chance to take a picture with Santa. While supplies last, children will receive a free gift (children must be present to receive gift).  This is an outdoor event.

 

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual 3 King’s Day celebration on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025 from 12- 2 p.m. on the Poinciana Community lawn (445 Marigold Ave.)  Enjoy the arrival of the 3 Kings, guest speakers, DJ, kid’s inflatable games, food trucks, Polk County Sheriff Meet and Greet and gifts for all the registered children up to age 12 while supplies last. To register, go to www.bit.ly/3ZUj2Nz.
