Kissimmee Parks and Rec Department has announced dates and details for a slew of activities coming up in the next few months.
Adult Prom — Adults wanting to relive the thrill of Prom Night can do just that at the Adult Prom to be held at the Kissimmee Civic Center on Saturday, April 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. It will be a night to live your inner youth in elegance and style. Tickets can be bought at the door for $30, or save money by planning early and purchasing them before March 28 for only $20 each. More information can be had by calling 407-518-2599.
Gardening Classes — At Chambers Park, the Community Garden will hold a series of free gardening programs through a partnership with the University of Florida Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension. Residents of all skill levels, from curious beginners to seasoned green thumb-ers are invited to participate. The schedule includes: an Indoor Plants class on March 20 from 11-12pm; a class on Edible Landscaping on April 15 from 11-12pm, and a Container Gardening class on May 9 from 11-12pm. The programs are free, and pre-registration is not required. Just plan to show up.
The Chambers Park Community Center will also be undergoing major upgrades in the next few months, including new, modern restrooms, upgraded roof and stucco finishes, and fresh interior enhancements for community events.
Spring and Summer Camps — Spring Break (March 17-24) is fast approaching and 6th-8th graders should register now for Team Extreme Spring Break Camp by calling 407-518-2599. The camp runs from 7:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $150 per week.
High School kids who want to apply for the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program this summer can get application forms starting March 3rd. Applications should be in by April 11. This program offers valuable leadership experience and is a great way to earn community service hours.
Summer camp opportunities include Camp Discovery for kindergarten through 5th grade, with weekly sessions from June 2 through July 25th and Teen Extreme Summer Camp for 6th through 8th graders also weekly from June 2nd through July 25th.
