Join the Kissimmee Fire Department, on Sunday, June 23, and help your students be heart healthy.

Through a partnership with the organization Who We Play For, free ECG heart screenings will be available for ages 10-22 from 12-4 p.m. at the Kissimmee Civic Center (201 E. Dakin Ave.). Donations are welcomed.

Hosted by the Mercy Foundation, registration is recommended is required by 7 p.m. on the 22nd. Register at https://www.whoweplayfor.org/kissimmee-fire or scan the QR code above. Students must be at least 10 years old to participate in the screening program. This ECG offering will fulfill the requirement that Osceola County high school athletes have one ECG on file to be able to participate and compete.

According to Who We Play For, Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)is the leading cause of death on school campuses and among student-athletes, but an ECG can boost the detection of heart conditions and help identify potential risks earlier.

"Our aim is to support the health and safety of our community's children," said Fire Chief Jim Walls. "With the support of Who We Play For, we hope to prevent sudden cardiac events and help keep our children safe by providing these free ECG screenings."

The electrocardiogram (ECG) heart screenings will be interpreted by a pediatric cardiologist or cardiologist volunteering to serve on WWPF's Medical Advisory Team. These are national and international level experts specifically trained on how to read ECG heart screenings for athletes based on the International Criteria.
