Three Osceola High baseball players will join the college ranks after signing grants at the OHS gym recently.

Outfielder Jose Figueroa will play for Alabama State next season, while second baseman Armen Calilao selected Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina and shortstop Edwin Bonilla agreed to play for the baseball team at Bethune-Cookman University.

Heritage Christian won its second consecutive Florida Christian Conference baseball championship Monday  by defeating Eastland Christian, 10-0, at Winter Springs.

The Eagles, 16-3, had to wait more than a week to play for the championship after rain delayed the title game that originally was set for May 6.

The School District of Osceola County’s Coach of the Year, Athletic Director of the Year and, for the first time, Male and Female Athletes of the Year, will be announced this evening at the annual M. Dean Cherry Memorial Coach of the Year Awards Banquet at Osceola Heritage Park.
