For Kissimmee dentist Robert Fischer, the tragedy that happened near the finish line at Monday’s Boston Marathon hit close to home — he ran the race and finished about 15 minutes before a pair of explosions rocked the event, killing three innocent bystanders and injuring as many as 175.

For Renae Cicchinelli, a former track and soccer coach at St. Cloud High School, the race is close to home.

Toho Water Authority is issuing a precautionary boil water advisory for residents served by the Pleasant Hill Lakes Water Treatment Plant due to a low chlorine residual detected in the distribution system. 

This advisory includes residents living in the Eagle Lakes, Pleasant Hill Lakes, and Parkview at Lakeshore Subdivisions.

Hamilton Disston, the Philadelphia industrialist and land developer who purchased 4 million acres of land in and around the Kissimmee River basin in the 1880s, would likely be pleased today with Kissimmee’s new Lakefront Park.

So much that that he’d probably be happy to hitch up one of his steamboats at the park’s slips or docks or its proposed expanded marina.

The King of the Kissimmee Fire Department is giving up the throne.
After a decade on the force and a total of 37 years in the fire service, Kissimmee Fire Chief Bob King is hanging up his helmet.
“It was time,” said King, 64.
