As expected, Harmony and St. Cloud easily earned berths to the regional softball tournament by winning 7A-6 district semifinal contests Tuesday at Harmony.

Long-time Osceola High assistant softball coaches Fred Klammer and George Hill were honored Friday when the dugouts at Coffey Field were named in their honor.

Klammer and Hill have been on the OHS coaching staff since Coach George Coffey took over the program in 1995. Hill is taking a break this year while he coaches his grandchildren in a pair of youth leagues.

It might be a stretch to call Osceola County the epicenter of Florida high school softball excellence, but three local teams put on impressive performances at spring break tournaments.

Osceola, 20-3, reached the Blue bracket championship game at the Kissimmee Klassic last weekend, knocking off a pair of defending state champions in the process.

St. Cloud made a successful return to the Kissimmee Klassic softball tournament Thursday with a come-from-behind 9-8 win over Trinity Prep, and host Osceola rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge St. Petersburg Canterbury School, 3-2.

The Kissimmee Klassic returns to the Osceola County Softball Complex for its 21st edition beginning today, and as usual, the tournament is loaded with elite high school programs.

Four state champions, one from Illinois, dot the 32-team field, which is split into 16-team Gold and Blue brackets.
