City of St. Cloud Parks and Recreation staff has announced the closure of the area known within the community as “St. Cloud Beach” — East Lake Tohopekaliga lakefront — Monday through Wednesday, June 20-22.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission provided city with a permit to apply an herbicide to the beach area and the beach will be closed to the public during this time.

“This chemical control, or herbicide, is a method commonly used to control algae, submerged plants and emergent plants,” said City Beautification Manager Kimberly Duffy. “While this herbicide is not dangerous, we will be closing the area as a preventive measure and the public is asked to avoid the recreational area during these two days.”

Parks and Recreation staff will place and then remove warning signs throughout the area. The picnic areas at the lakefront will remain open to the public. For more details, call 407- 957-7243.
