Each month, one homeowner located within the Main Street district (between Florida and Massachusetts Avenues and 13th Street to Lakeshore Boulevard) will be selected as the Heavenly Home winner.
The goal of the Heavenly Home Program is to recognize the efforts of St. Cloud Main Street (district) residents who take pride in their home and landscape/decor and inspire others to do the same.
To kickoff the first award, the Main Street committee selected and voted on a few homes within the program area that showcased holiday spirit and festive décor in conjunction with a well-groomed yard/exterior. The first home selected for the Heavenly Home Award was 814 Massachusetts Ave., owned by Fran Hardin.
Homes will be selected in accordance with the four-point approach:
Promotion
Create a positive image of the business district to attract customers and investors and rekindle community pride. Promotion includes the development of sophisticated events and festivals, and the creation of a consistent image through graphic and media presentations. Promotion also includes target “selling” of the district to investors, developers and new businesses. A fundamental part of this committee is to promote community and organizations' involvement within the downtown program area.
Economic
Restructuring
Strengthen existing economic assets of' the business district while diversifying its economic base. The process begins with two critical steps, undertaken concurrently: compiling a thorough inventory of the district's existing building and businesses, and conducting a market analysis to provide a profile of the area through an examination of demographic statistics, current economic trends and future projections.
With the necessary district and market data, activities then include retaining, improving and expanding existing business; recruiting new businesses to provide a balanced mix; converting disused space into productive property and sharpening the competitiveness of the district's traditional merchants.
Design
Enhance the visual quality of the business district means attention to all physical elements: buildings, storefronts, signs, public improvements, landscaping, merchandising displays and promotional materials. The quality of the designed environment demonstrates to the public the other qualities of the district.
Organization
Establish a consensus and cooperation by building partnerships that allow the development of a consistent revitalization program and permit the emergence of effective management and advocacy of the business district.
Diverse groups — city officials, merchants, property owners, investors, bankers, chamber members, redevelopment agencies, civic leaders, private citizens, students and others — must work together to improve the business district. Successful revitalization of the district enhances the community for the benefit of all.
The award will continue monthly and be announced by the 20th of each month.
