Poinciana By Lisa D’Cato New Dimensions High School, Osceola County’s first charter high school, will host its first golf tournament Saturday, April 24. The scramble format will be played at Kissimmee Oaks Golf Club, 1500 The Oaks Blvd.
The schedule includes a 10 a.m. shotgun start, with prizes at 3 p.m. Cost is $75 per golfer, $250 per foursome. The registration fee includes coffee and donuts, driving range, green fees and cart, lunch and tournament prizes.
Participation in the tournament will support New Dimensions High School students, the student athletes, school facilities and coaching staff. It is anticipated that this tournament will quickly fill. Registration deadline is April 17.

Chestnut Elementary School for Science and Engineering will host a pancake breakfast Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m. The menu features flying saucer pancakes, asteroid sausage, astronaut juice, milk-y way and coffee fuel.
After breakfast, students and their families will participate in hands-on activities as they increase their knowledge of science with a High Touch, High Tech program. Tickets are $3. For more information, contact Kathe Weisheyer, 407-870-4862.
This pancake breakfast will be a mini-introduction to the new Choice options in Poinciana. The Osceola County School Board has expanded the options for Poinciana children in kindergarten to fifth grade for the 2010-11 school year. Chestnut Elementary has been renamed Chestnut Elementary School for Science and Engineering. Students will have the opportunity to learn with a special focus on science/technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Learning will be enhanced through hands-on activities with robots, science experiments, rocketry, video production, computer design, Lego construction and more.
Poinciana Elementary School has now been named Poinciana Elementary Academy of Fine Arts. The school offers an arts curriculum, featuring visual arts, drama, dance, choral and instrumental. Students who attend this school will be prepared to apply for acceptance into The Osceola County School for the Arts.
Students in kindergarten through fourth grade in the following schools may apply to attend: Pleasant Hill, Reedy Creek, Sunrise, Bellalago Academy, Deerwood, Poinciana, Chestnut and Koa. Student admission will be based on a random lottery system. Transportation will be provided via hubs at middle and/or high schools.
Poinciana parents interested in any of these Choice schools are encouraged to attend an informational session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at either Poinciana or Chestnut elementary schools.

The Association of Poinciana Villages’ Parks and Recreation Department will host the community’s annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 3, at 10 a.m., at Deerwood Park (off Laurel Avenue).
Children 10 and under are invited to come out and collect their goodies. Bring a basket or a bag.
