The newest Eagle Scout in the community is Jack Olson, of Boy Scout Troop 298, St. Cloud, chartered by VFW Post 3227, St. Cloud.
For Jack’s Eagle project, he designed and supervised construction of a flagpole on Makinson Island in the middle of Lake Tohopekaliga in Kissimmee with the approval of and donated to Osceola County Parks and Recreation.
The flagpole was constructed using 3,420 pounds of concrete, 150 pounds of flagstone, 30 feet of 3-inch stainless steel pipe and 40 feet of 3-inch galvanized steel pipe topped with a brass eagle
Jack spent 53 hours planning and carrying out the project. There were 27 people who helped with a total of 299 hours digging the hole and mixing concrete and assembling the flagpole.
Jack started his Boy Scouts of America career as a Tiger Cub, moved up in the ranks of Wolves, Wears, Webelos I and II, Scout, Tenderfoot, First Class, Second Class, Star, Life and now he has achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
