A Kissimmee woman Friday was involved in a fatal car accident during the middle of rush hour on State Road 417 and Orange Blossom Trial, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Luis Muniz, 75, of Orlando, was driving his 2002 GMC SUV northbound on S.R. 417 around 5:50 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, Muniz lost control and struck a pole.

The SUV went airborne and struck Elsie Ramos, 52, of Kissimmee, in her 1995 Pontiac, who was also traveling northbound. The SUV then overturned.

Muniz was killed in the crash. It is unknown if he was wearing his seat belt. Ramos was not injured.

The crash is under investigation, including whether alcohol played a role in Muniz’s actions.
