Although it is not autumn until Sept.  22, fall activities are about to zip in.

Literally. Zip Orlando is about to get zombie-creepy. All you horror fans, check this out before the theme park Halloween activities start.

Zip Orlando, located at 4509 S. Orange Blossom Trail (off of Ham Brown Road) offers zip line adventures through the area parallel to green Meadows Farm. This is a chance to experience old Poinciana from a birds-eye view. On Friday, this spot is about to be taken over by the walking dead.

The Zip Orlando course at 1374 S. Poinciana Blvd. will be transformed into Zip of the Dead. There will be classic zombie movies, music, dancing, food and all things zombie related like zombie karaoke and a face-eating contest. Forget about down and dirty, this event is for the down and dead.

If you don’t have a clue on how to do zombie make-up, Zip of the Dead has that covered.  Zip’s Brooke Jordan and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studio’s Mike Burt will be on hand to give you a make over to die for.

This is a different and new addition to the Central Florida Halloween type activities. Zip of the Dead is open to all ages. Admission for the event alone is $10. To zip the fastest line on the course is $15, or $20 for a pair. Gates open at 7 p.m.

The toddler playtime is available three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The cost is $15 per week. Parents must provide a snack.

Free tutoring is available to students who attend Title 1 schools in Osceola County. Title 1 schools, as amended by the Improving America’s Schools act in 1984, provides supplementary educational services for public school students to assist those children with additional skills and education to meet performance standards. Federal legislation provides guidelines for the selection of schools.

Schools are ranked annually by the percentage of the students receiving free or reduced lunch. Students attending a Title I school have an area parent center. In Poinciana, that area parent center is Chestnut Elementary, where a variety of check-out material is available for home use.

Students who attend any of the Title 1 schools in the Poinciana area are eligible for free tutoring as well. These schools are Chestnut Elementary, Deerwood Elementary, Koa Elementary, Reedy Creek Elementary, Poinciana Academy of Fine Arts, Discovery Intermediate, Liberty High School and Poinciana High School.

Free tutoring services are provided in a small group, one-on-one setting. One of the choices being offered to Title 1 students is the Hampton Educational Services Group, 954-435-1098. For additional choices on tutoring services, speak with your child’s teacher.
