This past week I took a break from Lake Toho and spent the week on Lake Pickwick up in northwestern Alabama.
My three sons and their families met my wife and I there for our annual family reunion week.
The weather was a whole lot like Central Florida, mid-90s for a high and upper-70s for the low.
The water temperatures hung around 90 degrees.  The bass fishing was a lot better than I expected.
The first couple of days we caught them all on white spinner baits, up to 6 pounds.
The next day you couldn’t buy a bite on a spinner bait, so we started trying different things.
We found a line of hydrilla that ran for about 2 miles and started throwing plastic frogs across it.
We had good bass blowing up through the grass for the rest of the week.
We caught a few on plastic worms and some on a crank bait.
We also spent some time fishing for catfish, using chicken gizzards and livers.
All in all, it was a great time spent with family.
I’ll be hitting Toho hard this coming week and will update you on what I find is working.
If you get a chance, take your kids fishing. Some good memories can be made on the water.
