The first district championships of the spring season will be decided on the tennis courts next week as Osceola County schools compete at three district tournaments.

County weightlifters also have an important event Wednesday when Harmony High hosts the 2A Section 6 meet at 5:30 p.m.

In tennis, Poinciana’s boys travel to Mulberry and the girls go to Auburndale Monday at 8:30 a.m. for the 2A-9 district tournament.

Tuesday at 3 p.m., Gateway and Liberty travel to Winter Park High for the 4A-3 tournament.

Harmony, Osceola, Celebration and St. Cloud go to Melbourne’s Fee Avenue Park Wednesday at 9 a.m. for the 3A-8 district tournament.

Harmony’s girls and Celebration’s boys won the Orange Belt Conference championships. The Storm edged St. Cloud, 4-3, for the title Wednesday at Celebration.

The No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles district champions will advance to the state tournaments in Seminole County in two weeks. The team champion and runner-up from each district will move on to regional competition.

St. Cloud sophomore Trevor Foshey advanced to the state tournament last year.

The champions at the sectional weightlifting meet will qualify for the state tournament in Kissimmee April 21. Nine at-large selections from throughout the state, for a total of 10 lifters per weight class, also will go to the state tournament.

Harmony and Bartow are two of the strongest teams in Central Florida. Also competing at Harmony are St. Cloud. Liberty, Gateway, Celebration and Osceola along with several more Polk County schools.

Poinciana travels to Lake Wales for the A-8 sectional. The Class A state tournament is April 20.
