Fall sports practice starts Aug. 2, but get paperwork, physicals first

The start of school not only means that it’s time to go to class.

It’s also time to go to practice.

Practice for high school varsity fall sports — football, volleyball, swimming, cross country, bowling and golf — begin Aug. 2. Athletes must have all of their physical paperwork filled out, turned in and on file before beginning practice.

Athletes will need a valid sports physical on file, which is good for 365 days. Each must also get an ECG (electrocardiogram) test. One ECG is valid for an athlete’s entire high school career.

The paperwork is available online at athleticclearance.fhsaahome.org. Links to the paperwork as well as other information is available online from the School District of Osceola County at https://www.osceolaschools.net/Page/2272.

Including the physical, an eligible student athlete must be a registered student carrying a full credit load, maintain an overall unweighted 2.0 GPA, and not turn 19 before Sept 1.

Parents can contact the Athletic Directors at their respective schools for school-specific information.

For the high schools, they are: Jim Bird (Osceola), Eric Godfrey (St. Cloud), Travis James (Gateway), Daniel Kerr (Harmony), Rick Tribit (Celebration), Michael Babin (Liberty), Tiffany King (Poinciana) and Lonnie Flores (Tohopekaliga).
