Whitted Historic Community Awareness Day is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Narcoossee Community Center (5354 Rambling Road) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The purpose of this event is to bring awareness to the ongoing water contamination issues impacting families within the Whitted Historic Community while also providing direct support, resources, wellness services, and community engagement opportunities for residents. This event will bring together community leaders, residents, nonprofit organizations, health and wellness providers, businesses, churches, and service organizations for a day focused on advocacy, education, restoration, and unity.
For decades, residents have faced environmental and water-related concerns that continue to affect daily life. Many families, particularly elderly residents on fixed incomes, are forced to purchase water for drinking and cooking while continuing to navigate the uncertainty surrounding long-term health and environmental impacts. Our goal is to unite community organizations, local businesses, churches, schools, healthcare providers, and civic leaders in a collaborative effort to:
● Raise awareness about the challenges impacting the community
● Support affected families through a community water drive
● Provide wellness and resource services
● Promote education, advocacy, and community engagement
● Encourage youth leadership and service through Rotary Interact involvement
