As the temperature rises, thoughts turn to staying cool and relaxation. Take advantage of the warmer weather by enjoying the pools of Poinciana. Starting Wednesday, May 20, the Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) pools will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The Poinciana Victory Pool (445 Marigold Ave.) is the perfect spot for families and anyone looking to unwind in a welcoming environment. There is space for up to 250 guests and features a dedicated children’s play area complete with interactive water features and plenty of room for swimming. Guests may also register for swim lessons for all ages.
The Aquatic Center at Vance Harmon Complex (625 Country Club Dr.) offers more structured swimming functions. The pool is heated and competition ready with 2 diving boards. A family of five annual pass is $60.

The School District of Osceola County’s Environmental Summer Camp for elementary students entering 4th and 5th grade runs June 8-11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SDOC Environmental Center (4300 S. Poinciana Blvd.)
Students will explore the natural environment of Osceola County. They will have the opportunity to engage scientific investigations, learning about adaptions and food chains in Florida eco-system. Students will also explore the scrub sites and cypress forests and learn about local floral, fauna and geology.
Environmental Center Summer Camp Middle School is for students entering 6th and 7th grade. The camp runs June 15-18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to engage in scientific investigations and learn about locations and waterways in the Kissimmee-Okeechobee-Everglades Watershed and Florida limestone formations.

Third grade Reading Summer Camp is provided for students who have not met the reading requirement for promotion. Students who attend Reading Camp will receive intensive reading instructions. Students who demonstrate acceptable performance may be promoted to the 4th grade. This camp runs from Monday through Thursday, June 2-25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participating Poinciana schools, in the Poinciana area, are Deerwood Elementary and Sunrise Elementary. Middle School Algebra EOC test prep and retakes is an opportunity for Middle School students, who have completed Algebra 1 and did not pass the Spring Algebra EOC test to review and retake. This opportunity is for 7th and 8th grade students and runs from Monday to Thursday July 6-14 from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at Liberty High School. Contact your child’s school for more information.
The Summer 21st Century Program provides students with free project-based learning activities, service learning, social, emotional and health education. This program is for students in kindergarten to 5th grade and runs Monday through Thursday, June 3 to July 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Deerwood Elementary School.

BridgePrep Academy of Osceola (4851 Koa St.), has a summer camp program which runs Monday through Friday beginning June 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day to register is Friday, May 29 and the fee is $50 per week. The program includes breakfast, lunch and snacks. Weekly themes include fitness, science, world exploration and adventures including themed activities and water days. Pleasant Hill Academy 140 Pompei Dr.) will hold a sports clinic summer camp, Monday, July 13 to Thursday, Aug. 6 Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for student in grades 1-10. This learn and grow sports camp features, basketball, flag football, volleyball, track and soccer. The program fee is $250 plus $25 registration and includes breakfast, lunch and snacks. The inaugural Pop-Up Shop, hosted by Premiere Eglise Baptiste Haitienne de Poinciana (601 Walnut St.) takes place on Saturday, May 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This family friendly event features food, shopping and more.
