Mill Run Park also gets upgrades in project
The City of Kissimmee held a ceremonial groundbreaking Wednesday on Fire Station 2 in the Mill Slough community.
Combined with improvements to Mill Run Park, the $13 million project will replace Fire Station 12 on Denn John Lane, which was built in 1980.
Construction is scheduled to begin soon and is expected to be completed in fall 2027. Upon completion, Station 12 will be repurposed as an operations center for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.
According to the city, the new three-bay fire station will include 24-hour fire suppression and emergency medical services (EMS) coverage, Improved emergency response readiness, firefighter living quarters and operational workspaces for 24-hour staffing and emergency power systems designed to maintain operations during severe weather.
“This project represents an important investment in the safety and preparedness of our community,” said Fire Chief Jim Walls. “The new station will provide firefighters with modern facilities and equipment that support efficient response, operational readiness, and the ability to serve residents around the clock.”
The upgrades to Mill Run Park include new sidewalks, updated playground equipment, added picnic tables and new restrooms. The park will temporarily close during construction.
“Public safety and quality of life remain top priorities for our community,” Mayor Jackie Espinosa said. “This project strengthens emergency response for residents while also improving a neighborhood park that families use and enjoy. It reflects our commitment to making thoughtful investments that serve our community both today and in the future.”
