Kissimmee names new Police Chief

The city of Kissimmee has named Charles "Chuck" Broadway, the Clermont police chief for the last 13 years, to be its next police chief, the city announced Monday.

Broadway takes over after former chief Betty Holland resigned in October 2024 amid a State Attorney's investigation into an April 2023 excessive use of force case. Robert Anzueto, who came from the Orange County Sheriff's Office to serve as the interim chief and lead the Kissimmee Police Department's response to the concerns raised by State Attorney Office’s investigation into the use of force case, led a re-organization and stabilization of KPD, but has returned to Orange County.

Last week, the city announced the choice would come down to Broadway and former Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon out of a original announced field of nine candidates.

Broadway's swearing-in ceremony will take place during the Kissimmee City Commission meeting on Tuesday, April 1.

“I am honored to serve as the Chief of Police for the Kissimmee Police Department. KPD is a strong agency with dedicated officers and civilians with a deep commitment to public safety,” Broadway said in a statement Monday afternoon. “The department has taken important steps to strengthen its culture, and I am eager to build on that foundation. My focus will be on supporting our officers, enhancing community trust, and ensuring we continue to provide the highest level of service to the residents and visitors of Kissimmee”.

Prior to commanding the Clermont force, where he led since 2012, Broadway served as a Special Agent Supervisor with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), overseeing major criminal investigations, violent crime cases, and police-involved shooting reviews. His career began with the New York City Police Department (NYPD), where he worked as a detective and played a role in the 9/11 search and recovery efforts.

Showing administrative accountability, Broadway served on the executive board of the Florida Police Chief Association and was appointed to its subcommittee on accountability, and is a past President of the West Central Florida Police Chiefs Association and the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute. He is an active member of state and national law enforcement organizations, the city of Kissimmee said, serving on boards and committees focused on policing standards, public safety, and accountability.

“Chief Broadway brings extensive experience in law enforcement leadership, investigations, and public safety strategy. His background and expertise equip him to lead the Kissimmee Police Department with excellence,” said City Manager Mike Steigerwald. “This transition marks a new era for KPD, and we are confident that under his leadership, the department will continue its strong commitment to professionalism, public safety, and community engagement.”
