FHP report: Kissimmee teen killed in Sunday night motorcycle crash in Poinciana

A 16-year-old Kissimmee motorcycle rider was fatally killed and his passenger seriously injured Sunday night when the bike ran off the road and struck a metal pole, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

According to the crash report, around 7:45 p.m. Sunday the two males were on a Honda dirt bike traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Marigold Avenue south of Peabody Road, near Deerwood Elementary School. Troopers say the motorcycle swerved to the left to avoid colliding with an oncoming Chevrolet Traverse traveling southbound.

Troopers say the front of the motorcycle collided with the metal pole, and the two riders fell from the motorcycle, which landed sideways in the direct path of the Traverse. The 16-year-old driver was transported to Poinciana Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 18-year-old passenger was transported to HCA Florida Hospital Osceola with serious injuries, FHP reported.

The three occupants of the Traverse, also from Kissimmee, were not injured and remained on-scene. The crash remains under investigation.
