Alums of Kissimmee High School gather again

The graduating Class of 1967 at Kissimmee High School — Osceola County’s all-black school until Osceola High fully integrated in the mid’60s, recently held its annual class reunion.

This year’s, held in Tallahassee, was noteworthy because it was the first one held in-person since 2019; COVID-19 changed the landscape of gatherings in the four years since.

“It was so exciting for us to finally get together, we’d been shut in for so long,” said 1967 KHS graduate Diane McCullum Tisdale.

Kenneth Bracy was the host, and the theme was: “57 Years Strong!”

Meet, greet, and chat was held Friday night, and honorary member, Miss Latrice Lewis surprised the attendees when she issued everyone a T-shirt, gift bag, and catered the food for the occasion.

Before the end of the evening, honorary members Ralph Tisdale, Brenda A. Hailey, Latrice Lewis and guests Mary Jane Knight, Jackie Sahdala, and Sandra Robinson were recognized. A gift was presented to the Robinsons, and the fun and games started thereafter.

On Saturday, the group of 12 attendees toured IMAX and Challenger Learning Center, watched a “City of the Future” movie, enjoyed lunch and presented gifts to the attendees host Mr. Bracy. A special prayer session was lead by Pastor Emeritus Brenda Anderson Hailey, and the class prayed as a group before the gathering concluded that Sunday afternoon.

“Kissimmee High School’s legacy continues, and our class will always remember the school that opened its doors with a caring staff who made it possible for us and many others to attain an education,” said McCullum Tisdale. “Hats off to all who walked the halls of Kissimmee High School.”

The group will gather again in April 2025, this time “back home” in Kissimmee, McCullum Tisdale said.
