Florida Highway Patrol reports that a 16-year-old male from Kissimmee was killed overnight when he lost control of the CAR he was driving on International Drive.
According to FHP's crash report, the incident took place just after 12:30 a.m. early Monday morning. A Ford Fusion driven by the Kissimmee teen was traveling southbound in the center lane on International Drive approaching Tanglewood Bay Drive, just south of Central Florida Parkwway and Sea World. "For unknown reasons," the car swerved to the right and struck the median curb, then became airborne after hitting another curb and struck a traffic sign support, a condominium community entrance sign and a tree. The car then overturned onto its left side.
While the passenger, a 16-year-old from Orlando, was ejected, FHP says, and transported to a hospital in critical condition, the driver was pronounced dead on scene.
While the FHP report does show that neither vehicle occupant was wearing a seat belt, there are no other details of the crash currently available, such as the speed the vehicle was traveling. FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
