The 2023 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run is expected to travel on foot through Kissimmee, weather permitting, Friday morning.
The “Flame of Hope” should set off from the Florida Cattleman’s Association at 9 a.m., on its way to the Kissimmee Lakefront about an hour later.
Special Olympic athletes and law enforcement members — Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Kissimmee Police Department, St. Cloud Police Department, Osceola County Corrections, and Florida Highway Patrol — will carry torch on its run.
Expected rolling road blocks and brief delays if you are on the torch’s route Friday morning — west on 192 from Shakerag to Main Street, south to Cherry Street for a short break, back on Main toward the Lakefront and Ruby Plaza by 9:45 to 10 a.m.
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Our community was also a part of this noble cause last year, in the buildup to the Special Olympics USA Games, which was held at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports, with the equestrian events at the Silver Spurs Arena. The run made its way through downtown Kissimmee, with a stop in front of the Old Historic Courthouse.
The torch run — the “Guardians of the Flame” annually raise millions of dollars for Special Olympics.
