Semi truck hits, kills driver of disabled vehicle on Narcoossee Road

The driver of a disabled street-sweeper was hit and killed by a semi-truck in Osceola County early Thursday morning, after he got out of the vehicle.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Daniel Sapp, 61, of Tamarac, was driving a 2016 U.S. Postal semi-truck hauling mail northbound in the right lane on Narcoossee Road at about 4 a.m.

Up ahead was a disabled street-sweeper that was sitting in the right northbound lane of Narcoossee Road.

A tow truck was preparing to hook up the disabled vehicle. The driver of the street-sweeper, Rafael Gurrero, 42, of Oveido, had gotten out of the disabled vehicle.

Sapp failed to slow and hit both the street-sweeper and Gurrero. The street-sweeper overturned onto its side and Gurrero was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
