St. Cloud Hospital names new chief nursing officer
Monday, Faye Collins assumed to the role of chief nursing officer at Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital.
“With more than two decades of patient care experience, Faye will provide leadership for clinical activities, processes and policies that support high-quality patient care for nursing and other clinical teams,” said Brian Wetzel, president, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “As an experienced collaborative leader, Faye is committed to delivering exceptional high-quality care to our patients and connecting with our physicians and team members.”
Collins came to Orlando Health from Banner—University Medical Centers Tucson, acute care teaching hospitals affiliated with the University of Arizona, where she served as associate chief nursing officer. Collins has extensive experience leading teams in Magnetdesignated hospitals and both Level One and Level Three Trauma Centers. She has also served as a leader for adult, pediatric, psychiatric and emergency service lines.
2024 St. Cloud Citizens Academy now open
The City of St. Cloud is now accepting applications for its 2024 Citizens Academy program, which will take place Tuesdays from Jan. 9 through Feb. 27, 2024. The application deadline is Friday, Nov. 10.
Citizens Academy is an interactive, immersive experience designed to give city residents an upclose look at their City government in action. Citizens Academy is held once per year and is open to city residents ages 18 and older. Class size is limited. SCAR Poinciana Parkway community meeting Oct. 21
SCAR Group (Southport Connector Alternative Route) will hold an outreach event to reach Poinciana residents on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Poinciana Public Library. The presentation will be given at 2:30 p.m. in English and at 4 p.m. in Spanish.
The SCAR Outreach Group will present a full video presentation with a question-and-answer period focused on the Central Florida Expressway’s plan for Cypress Parkway and the connection of Poinciana Parkway from its current southern end at Cypress to what is proposed as a new expressway from the southern end of Pleasant Hill road south of Lake Tohopekaliga to Florida’s Turnpike.
Kissimmee Social Security Office moving
The Social Security office located at 1201 E. Oak Street is Kissimmee has relocated effective Oct. 10. The new location is 4030 W. Vine St.
Most Social Security business can also be handled through Social Security’s toll free telephone (at 1-800-772-1213) as well as the agency’s website at www. socialsecurity.gov. Some of the services available on the website include applying for benefits, getting a verification letter, setting up or changing direct deposit, changing address and phone information and getting replacement cards.
USPS holiday shipping and mailing deadlines
To assist customers with their preparations for the upcoming busy holiday shopping and shipping season, the U.S. Postal Service is providing 2023 holiday shipping and mailing deadlines. The information below covers domestic, international and military shipping destinations to allow for the timely delivery of cards, letters and packages by Dec. 25 With the deadlines, the Postal Service also announced it will not have a peak, or demand, surcharge this holiday season, offering increased predictability in pricing for customers.
Deadlines in the U.S.: First-Class Mail (including greeting cards) and USPS Ground Advantage — Dec. 16; Priority Mail— Dec. 18 (Dec. 16 to Hawaii); Priority Mail Express — Dec. 20.
Army, Fleet and Diplomatic Post Offices (APO, FPO, DPO): USPS Ground Advantage — Nov. 6; First-Class and Priority Mail — Dec. 9; Priority Mail Express Military Service, Dec. 15 (where available).

Osceola Science Charter School Students raise $34K
Osceola Science Charter School (OSCS) recently raised $34,000 for its students through the Apex Leadership Co. Fun Run Fundraiser. Over the course of the fundraiser, students participated in team days, which consisted of leadership lessons, team building and fitness activities. It closed out with a Fun Run Day, where the students ran around the track to raise money for every lap completed. Over 1,100 students participated and 504 received a pledge – raising a total of $34,000 dollars for the school OSCS is using the funds for extracurricular STEM activities, such as a GeoBus Tour, which is a solarpowered mobile geospatial technology learning lab. The 40-foot repurposed city bus visits Florida K-12 schools and offers geospatial technology, geography and mapping experiences to students.
