Osceola County and Osceola County Fire Rescue EMS will officially open its 16th fire station, Station 67 on Boggy Creek Road near the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex, Tuesday morning.
The $9.5 million station is designed to withstand severe weather events, including winds up to 150 mph. Per Osceola County, it will include a large community room capable of hosting small meetings and be a potential polling location.
The 21 new firefighters who will staff Station 67 have positions made possible through a $5.44 million Federal SAFER grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“This is exciting, because anything and everything we do for public safety is so important to our citizens,” said County Commissioner Ricky Booth, whose district 5 includes the east Boggy Creek Road area, at last year's groundbreaking. “The last time the county added a Fire Station was in 2007 (Reunion). When a 9-1-1 call comes in, all the caller wants to know is that help is coming in the quickest way possible.”
The county has plans for two more new stations to be built, in Poinciana and at Calypso Cay Way near U.S. Highway 192. The latter also broke ground last year.
