The Kissimmee Police Department, along with help from an Osceola Sheriff's policing unit helped in the arrest of an individual following a responded to a report of suspicious activity at a local pharmacy after a citizen called 911 to report activity in the area.
Jean Carlos Hernandez Mejia, 34, was arrested and charged with felony burglary to an unoccupied structure, criminal mischief, petit theft and violation of probation. While his bond was set at $6,000, he remains held in the Osceola County Jail on the probation violation.
Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, KPD officers reported to a burglary call at the East Vine Street pharmacy, which had also been burglarized a week prior, according to the arrest report. Thanks to the coordinated response of KPD's Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Intelligence Unit, tactical unit and its new drone program, along with the Sheriff’s Office's tactical team, a suspect later identified as Hernandez Mejia was quickly located and detained.
“This arrest reflects the outstanding work and collaboration of our officers and partner agencies. I am grateful for their teamwork, professionalism, and swift response," KPD Police Chief Chuck Broadway said. "Their efforts continue to reflect our commitment to keeping Kissimmee safe.
As the response followed a citizen's 911 call, KPD said it encourages the public to report such suspicious activity as this; community calls for service are vital in helping officers identify and respond to criminal activity.
"We also thank our community members for reporting suspicious activity and helping us respond quickly,” Broadway said.
