In the midst of all the development and building in an ever-expanding Osceola County, there are still glimpses of nature here they harken back to times of wide open spaces.
Local reporter and, of late, bird enthusiast Roger Simmons came across some rare Bald Eagles while traveling on assignment this past week in the Kissimmee Park area. (Since Bald Eagles are federally protected, the Audubon Society prefers not to post exact locations of nests, he said.)
Roger writes: "Lucky for me, the whole family was home ... The parents took turns staying by the nest or flying down to get some food for the youngster. The eaglet didn’t seem too happy when the parents would fly back. I wasn’t expecting to see or photograph any Bald Eagles on this trip, but with birding you have to expect the unexpected.
