ST. CLOUD NEWS — Get your yard sales, start of summer extravaganzas on!

Go find “another man’s treasure” — The bi-annual St. Cloud City-Wide Yard Sale takes place this weekend, May 15-17. No permit is needed – start as early as you want and go as late as you want!

The City of St. Cloud is accepting applications, from residents, interested in volunteering to serve on the City’s Fire and Police Pension Board. This is an opportunity to get involved and help serve the community through Advisory Board participation. Home schoolers can celebrate the end of the school year at the City of St. Cloud’s Home School Glow Party on Friday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Cloud Civic Center. The day will be filled with music, friends and glow in the dark games and activities. Bright neon attire is recommended. The cost is $15 per person for city residents and $20 for non-City residents. Zumba in the Park is Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Performance Art Pavilion (1402 Lakeshore Blvd.) This high energy, full body workout features great music and a fun atmosphere for all fitness levels. Summer Camp registration is now open for the City of St. Cloud. Summer Camp is held at the St. Cloud Civic Center. Camp runs from Monday, June 1 to Friday, Aug. 7. Pre-register at https://webtrac.stcloudfl.gov/webtrac.

 

Third grade Reading Summer Camp is provided for students who have not met the reading requirement for promotion. Students who attend Reading Camp will receive intensive reading instructions. Students who demonstrate acceptable performance may be promoted to the 4th grade. This camp runs from Monday through Thursday, June 2-25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Narcoossee Elementary School and St. Cloud Elementary are the St. Cloud participating schools.
Middle School Algebra EOC test prep and retakes is an opportunity for middle school students, who have completed Algebra 1 and did not pass the Spring Algebra EOC test to review and retake. This opportunity is for 7th and 8th grade students and runs from Monday to Thursday July 6-14 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Cloud High School.

Kick-off summer fun with your little ones at the City of St. Cloud’s Toddler Summer Bash on Thursday, May 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the St. Cloud Civic Center. The morning will be full of games, crafts and family friendly fun for ages 2-4. The cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. Pre-register by calling 407-957-7243.
If getting indoors is your speed, R.I.S.E. UP Osceola (formerly Learn 2 Read) will be at the St. Cloud Library on Thursday from 9:30-11:15 a.m. This program will help your child develop an early love for reading.

The Mobile Museums of Tolerance brings its interactive and inspirational learning experience on wheels to the Library May 14-16 from 10 a.m. to5:30 p.m. Engage with powerful exhibits about the Civil Rights Movement, Anne Frank, and the role of ordinary people during the Holocaust in this unique opportunity. Knowledgeable staff will be on hand to answer questions and facilitate deeper discussions.
Presentation times: 10 a.m. - Power of Ordinary People; 11:30 a.m.; 1:30 p.m. - Combat Hate; 3 p.m. - Anne Frank, and 4:30 p.m. - Power of Ordinary People.

Capybaras at Sunset takes place at Amazing Animals (4235 Rambler Ave.) on Saturday, May 16 from 5-6:30 p.m. The evening is filled with animal encounters and a sundowner drink during check-in and have a chance to mingle with animal ambassadors. Featured stops include the barnyard and capybaras exhibits where you will get up close time with them in addition to seeing friendly goats, pigs and donkeys. Sami’s Star-Spangled Celebration takes place on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial St. Cloud Library. There will be patriotic crafts, a live DJ, inflatables, face painting and more.
