POINCIANA NEWS — Traffic advisory; avoid this closed intersection

There will be an extended closure at San Lorenzo Road between Valnera Court and Delano Court. This area is expected to remain closed until April 30 for roundabout construction at Marigold Avenue. Marigold will remain open with detours in place to direct traffic. The sidewalks are closed at this intersection. Pedestrians and bicyclists should follow detour signage and avoid the work zone. Love is still in the air! The Association of Poinciana Villages (APV) invites all residents 21 and older to the annual Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the Poinciana Community Center. Keep that loving feeling going at Sweetheart Bingo on Friday, Feb. 27 at the Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first ball pull at 7 p.m. This event is for those ages 18 and over. Concession stand will be open (no outside food or drink). Red and pink are the colors of the night! Bring your sweetheart and make it a date night.

 

Develop your Internet navigational skills by attending Internet Basics on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 10-11 a.m. at the Poinciana Library. Learn how to navigate a website and use search engines, as well as tips and tricks for basic and advanced searches.

Speed Date with a Book takes place on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 3-4 p.m. Keep that Valentine’s feeling going—love for books is in the air! Get to know a wide selection of books in lightening round. Books are provided.

R.I.S.E. Up Osceola: READ Bus will be at the library on Monday, Feb. 23. This Osceola School District’s Special Programs Department is bringing its READ Bus, a renovated yellow school bus with an interior that resembles a mini pre-K classroom will be onsite for children ages 3-4. There will be two times for this event—9:15 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Rhythm, Rhyme & Storytime takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 10:30-11 a.m. for children ages 2-5. Parents can sing, sway and swing through this program dedicated to music and movement. This story-time is in celebration of Black History Month.

Baby and Me takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 11:30 a.m.-noon. Hug your little ones while sharing this special firsttime experience. This is for children up to 18 months. This program introduces books with playtime and repetitive music.

E.S.O.L. for Beginners happens on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. This class allows non-English speakers to become more familiar with the English language.

The Mobile Museum of Tolerance will be on-site at the Library on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This interactive and inspirational learning experience allows you to engage with powerful exhibits about the Civil Rights Movement, Anne Frank and the role of ordinary people during the Holocaust in this unique opportunity. Knowledgeable staff will be on-site to answer questions and facilitate discussions. At 11:30 a.m. the topic will be Anne Frank, at 1:30 p.m. the topic will be Power of Ordinary People, at 3 p.m. the topic will be Civil Rights and at 4:30 p.m. the topic will be Combat Hate.

Gardening Series: Vegetable Garden Maintenance and Care will be presented on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 1 to 2 p.m. Learn essential techniques for maintaining and caring for a healthy vegetable garden including pest identification and harvest principles.

Stick around at 2 p.m. and meet the Garden Expert. Enhance your gardening skills with the support of University of Florida/ IFAS master gardener volunteers. This team will assist you with your gardening questions. This class runs from 2-3 p.m.

HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital is offering an ongoing virtual online Ortho Pre-Surgery class. If you are having orthopedic surgery, the nursing team and physical therapist at the hospital will prepare you and your support person for your surgery and recovery process.
