Heat advisory issued Saturday for Osceola County and much of Central Florida; thunderstorms also expected

Will you be outside playing or working Saturday afternoon?

The message from health and weather experts and those with Emergency Operations in Osceola County is -- BE CAREFUL!

With the high temperature expected to easily reach 97 degrees in the late afternoon -- don't be shocked if some places reach 100 -- heat indices will be in the range of 107-110 degrees.

Accordingly, Heat Advisories have been issued for portions of east central Florida, including Osceola County.

And, if that isn't enough, there is a 60 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms in the 4-7 p.m. timeframe, some of which could be strong to severe.

There are dangers to prolonged heat exposure at those temperatures. If you have outdoor plans, limit time out in direct sun. Seek shade, or find time indoors in air conditioning during the hottest part of the afternoon (2-7 pm). Shops, restaurants, or public facilities such as libraries can offer a chance to cool off.

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of cold water, and know the warning signs of heat exhaustion (lightheadedness and clammy skin) and heat stroke (an absence of sweating and loss of consciousness).

NEVER LEAVE PETS, CHILDREN OR OTEHR PEOPLE UNSUPERVISED IN VEHICLES. With no A/C running, with the high temperatures expected Saturday, the inside temperature of a car or truck can quickly rise to over 130 degrees -- deadly levels.
