Public asked for involvement in new school superintendent search

Osceola County School District Superintendent Dr. Debra Pace announced in December she'd be retiring at the end of his school and fiscal year. The district and School Board have held workshops to talk about what they want in their next chief officer.

The district is also offering students, parents, school district employees, and all Osceola County residents the chance to participate in the outreach effort to also share its feedback on who and what they'd like to see Pace's successor be.

Through March 13, the public can log on to the district's ThoughtExchange online platform, at https://bit.ly/SuptSearchInput, to provide responses to questions about the district's upcoming challenges and opportunities, and what skills the next Superintendent will need to address them.

According to the district, participants can then rate other people's anonymous thoughts with one to five stars, indicating the level of agreement with each statement.

In-person Superintendent Search Community Forums will also be held, for the chance to provide input on what the new Superintendent should continue as it is working well in the district, what will be his or her challenges in the Osceola School District, and what qualifications and qualities should the new Superintendent have for success in the position. They will be held at:

  • NeoCity Academy - February 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the mixer space
  • Poinciana High - February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Business Academy mixer space
  • Celebration High - March 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the media center
  • St. Cloud High - March 2 at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria

A number of Florida school districts, including neighboring Brevard County, are also searching for a new superintendent. The Osceola County district is working with a consulting group with the Florida School Boards Association to have a new superintendent in place to be able to transition over the summer and have the new hire fully in place by July 1.
