−Orlando Gay Chorus Holiday Concert @ The Plaza LIVE7:30 am – 9:30 am
The Orlando Gay Chorus will sing and dance during its annual holiday concert, “Eat, Drink and Be Merry,” on Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 15 at 4:30 p.m. at The Plaza LIVE, 425 N. Bumby Ave., Orlando.
“Five words describe this holiday concert: festive, food, family, faith and fun,” said Artistic Director and Conductor Jim Brown. “I was not only thinking of eat/drink/merry, the what and why, but also HOW people celebrate all through the season.”
“Continuing with his reflections, he said, “Merry can not only be party/joy but the excitement, anticipation, planning, gift buying, decorating, etc. that people do leading up to Christmas Day; Eat/Drink is that act of welcoming people into your home or people going home to see loved ones and share a meal; After Dinner/Reflection/Thankful is when you reflect on the past year and all you are grateful for, then go off to dreaming with visions of sugar plums; and finally, Gift Giving/Merry (reprised) is celebrating the big day, which can be anti-climactic, but meaningful.”
Some of the songs the chorus will sing include, “Bring A Torch, Jeanette Isabella;” a mash-up of “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang and “Holiday” by Madonna; “Fum, Fum, Fum;” “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” a medley of Elvis Christmas songs” and much more!
Associate Artistic Director Jed Daiger will direct “Here We Come A-Wassailing.” The chorus will be accompanied by pianist Sue Glerum and choreographer for the concert is Bob Smith-Trent. The concert will be interpreted for the hearing-impaired by Debbie Drobney and her students from Valencia College.
Tickets are available online at www.orlandogaychorus.org, or from any chorus member. Adult ticket prices are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Student and children’s tickets are $10. Season ticket packages which include tickets for “Eat, Drink and Be Merry” and the spring concert “Pillow Talk,” are also available for $45.
