Come see the champs! Osceola County hockey fans will not have to travel far to see two of the top teams in the National Hockey League when the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers meet the Tampa Bay Lightning in a Sept. 25 pre-season game at Orlando’s KIA Center. Game time is 7 p.m.
The game is being hosted by the Orlando Solar Bears, Tampa Bay’s ECHL affiliate. It will be the sixth time the Lightning has played an exhibition game in the KIA Center and their 10th overall appearance in Orlando. The same two teams met last year in Orlando, with Tampa recording a 2-0 win.

Florida jumped out to a 3-0 series lead lead, only to lose three straight to set up a winner-take-all Game 7, won by the Panthers in thrilling fashion, 2-1.
Tampa Bay has made the post-season seven consecutive years and 16 times overall since joining the league in 1992. Florida, a 1993 NHL entry, has made the playoffs five straight years and won their first championship last year.
Excluding preseason, the teams have met 172 times The Panthers hold the all-time series edge (83 wins, 60 losses, 10 overtime wins, 19 ties. Florida won the regular season series last year 2-1 before dominating in the first round of the playoffs.
“We’re extremely excited to welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning back to the KIA Center for their preseason game with the Florida Panthers,” Solar Bears President Chris Heller said. We look forward to another fantastic experience of hosting an NHL game.”
