First Wreaths Across America Event at Kissimmee Rose Hill Cemetery
A salute to American Legion Post 10 in Kissimmee, and others, for putting together the first official Wreaths Across America wreath laying ceremony at Rose Hill. Over 300 wreaths were placed on veterans graves at the cemetery on Dec. 16, and Post 10 organizers are looking to place over 600 next year, which will mean every known veteran grave there receives a wreath. Of course, veterans groups and others in St. Cloud have been doing this for the last few years at Mount Peace Cemetery, so an ongoing salute to them too! Veteran Suicide- Maybe one piece of the puzzle has been found?
New research into brain injury and concussion at Harvard and the Center for Neurotechnology and Neurorecovery at Massachusetts General Hospital has discovered microscopic tears in the brain tissue of many veterans who died from suicide. Unfortunately, the tears are only discoverable post-mortem but occur in those who have experienced multiple explosive traumas both on the battlefield and from training. Of course, this can only account as a cause for a limited number of cases, and the search for answers continues, but anytime in science a direct correlation can be established, and researchers know where to look, the information usually starts to flow. In the meantime, if a veteran is in crisis, dial 988 and then press “1,” send a text to 838255 or chat online at https://bit.ly/3TIYHIf As always, we are looking for info on your veteranrelated news, events, and concerns at osceolavets@gmail.com.
