Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez Monday detailed the arrest of a man who made a habit of burglarizing vacation homes — often ones occupied — and stealing money.

During a surveillance operation early Sunday morning, detectives arrested Corionn Rodman Jones-Bentley, 29, in the Westside Boulevard area. They observed Jones-Bentley exit his vehicle and walked towards occupied vacation rental properties on Sticks Street. Jones-Bentley was observed entering multiple residences through screened-in porches and inside homes where the occupants were inside sleeping.

Lopez said detectives identified themselves and attempted to contact Mr. Jones-Bentley, and he responded by battering a detective and fleeing on foot, but was subsequently arrested.

The list of charges he was arrested on is about as long as his list of suspected break-ins: Occupied Burglary, Unoccupied Burglary, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Without Violence, Violation of Probation, Loitering and Prowling, and was issued a Parking citation.

An arrest report on one of the charges shows he lives in the vicinity of where the arrest took place.

Jones-Bentley was arrested 10 separate times in 2021 for related burglaries, Lopez said, detailing one specific incident where a father found the suspect inside and near his children’s room. The suspect was confronted and battered the father before fleeing the scene.

"My hat goes off to the witnesses in these crimes, they are brave," Lopez said. "And my hat also goes off to the detectives and deputies who made this arrest, to keep everyone safe. It's concerning because this is not normal; most burglars wait until people leave to burglarize their homes. He was arrested 10 times (in 2021) and everything was, pled no contest, pled no contest, dismissed by state ... that's concerning because a guy like this can escalate, he's battering witnesses and deputies. When the adrenaline rush is coming into an occupied house to steal, that is scary.

With burglaries like these on the uptick, patrol and intelligence units on the west side of the county began conducting surveillance in the area of Sticks Street, Reunion, and Oasis Club. The story was generally the same: a black male would enter residences and steal money while occupants were asleep inside.
