Osceola County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have made an arrest in a deadly shooting at a large, illegal house party in April near Davenport, the agency reported Thursday.
Detectives have arrested 16-year-old Chace Dawayne Mitchell in connection with the shooting death 18-year-old Daedean Anthony Moctezuma of Orlando at the house on Sommerset Hills Drive northwest of ChampionsGate on April 18. Mitchel is charged with manslaughter, Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in public, Unlawful possession of a firearm under 18 years of age and unlawful carry of a concealed weapon.
He was booked at the juvenile assessment center in Orange County, so no booking photo was taken. The News-Gazette is naming the minor suspect because the charges are felonies.
Detectives continue to investigate this incident, along with two other house parties with fatal or near fatal shootings. On March 14, Qvarious McCloud, 17, Orlando, was shot and killed in the Veranda Palms Subdivision just west of Kissimmee. And on May 2, a 17-year-old suffered shooting wounds to his legs at a party in the same area southwest of Kissimmee. While arrests were made in conjunction with promoting and throwing the party, a shooter has not been arrested.
After the May shooting, Osceola Sheriff Chris Blackmon vowed to crack down on such parties, that often involve large, loud crowds that disturb the peace, underage drinking, drug use and, in these three cases, shootings that cost two teenagers their lives and wounded another.
“If you’re having a party, expect to see the blue lights, not the ones you want to see,” Blackmon said ahead of a weekend that feature the major hip-hop Rolling Loud event that could have spun off more of those parties. “We’re tired of nonsense like our kids being shot. We’re going to take care of business,
Anyone with further information on these parties is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office (407-348-2222) or CrimeLine (800-423-TIPS).
