On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Early Learning Coalition celebrated 43 top-performing Osceola County VPK providers in Kissimmee with special commendation awards.
“We celebrate the incredible work you do each and every day for the children and families of Osceola County,” said Director of Community Impact Shirley Rivera speaking, on behalf of ELC Osceola CEO Amanda Kelkenberg. “This recognition represents your hard work, your passion, and your commitment to providing high-quality early learning experiences for our youngest learners.”
Rivera emphasized that the most vital work takes place directly in the classroom.
“You are creating safe, nurturing environments, building meaningful relationships with families, and helping children develop skills and confidence they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond,” she said. “Your commitment to excellence is making a lasting difference, not only to the children you serve, but through your entire community. Thank you for believing in the children, and every child, for your support, supporting every family, and continuing to raise the standard for early childhood education.”
As each VPK provider accepted their Certificate of Commendation, the ELC team offered their aid to assist students in the classroom.
Child Development Services Manager Lee Laline said Child Development Services Coordinator Michelle Gilford, Child Development Specialist Jenny Lacera, and new Child Development Specialist Carolyn Vasquez are there to help VPK classrooms accommodate their students.
Chief Program Officer Michelle Alfred said she appreciates what the VPK providers do.
“My girls, last night, we were watching the news, and they saw something that really disturbed them, and they said, ‘I hate that we’re in this generation that all we hear is bad news’ and I said,’ If the world is going to change in a positive direction, we’re going to have to impact children.’” Alfred said raising children with good values and a desire to make a positive impact begins with those who guide them from the start.
“Thank you for all that you do for the children in our community and the impact you have on the world,” Alfred said. I genuinely and sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate it.”
